about

Our Indigenous, Family & Trauma Specialist

You may be struggling with managing your thoughts and emotions, your mood, experiencing grief and loss, or feeling stuck. You find yourself worrying about the past, the future, and decision making. Likely you are feeling tired, sad or irritated as a result. When it comes to daily responsibilities like school, work or parenting, you notice an intense feeling of overwhelm and notice your life balance has deteriorated. At times you are using unhealthy coping strategies or are simply feeling at a loss. With changes in life you are finding it more difficult to adjust, whether it be retirement, divorce, and struggles with adult children.

I will support you in gaining back control by identifying your strengths and creating strategies that feel achievable. The result is re-building self-esteem, improving parenting, relationships and communication, achieving educational or career goals, and managing stress in a healthy way. Together we will explore what you need to feel more like yourself.

I understand what it’s like to feel judged. Within the 30 years of my career, I have developed an ability to create a trusting space where you can feel safe to be yourself, speak your mind and build faith on your ability to grow. I offer services virtually, in person and in the comfort of your own home. Let’s make sure we are a good fit, call or email me!

Supports

I work with clients who are struggling with mental health concerns, relationship issues, conflict, trauma, loss and grieving. During our initial session I will make every effort to making you comfortable and focus on establishing a relationship of trust. I will go at your pace and explore what has brought you to counseling. In subsequent sessions I will assist to set goals and find solutions.

Specializations

I have over 30 years of experience supporting individuals' mental health, including adults/children who have experienced trauma, loss, or were impacted by a loved one's traumatic event. For the last four years I worked with Indigenous people on a remote fly-in reserve. I often use a combination of CBT and DBT to target the negative impact our thoughts can have on our emotions and experiences. In addition, we will create strategies to challenge these, and create solutions to regulate your emotions. I also use a family systems approach to navigate struggles as a result of how the family functions as a whole, and what dynamics are working and which need to change.
